Reflection
In the summer while I was deciding which classes to take, I needed help and guidance. My dad advised me to take thr class public speaking as he took it in college. His public speaking experience was great, he said he learned a lot from this class. He learned to be more open, not shy, and the basic aspects of speaking. He said without a doubt I should take this class as it will help me in the future. So without any more thinking I knew which class I would be taking. After long guidance and help, I decided and knew I had to take this class. Coming into school, this was probably one of the classes I was unsure and not looking forward too. Without a doubt this is one of my favorite classes and a class I began to like. First day of school started off well. Once it was time for public speaking, I was nervous and did not know what to expect. The first week, was not that great. It was boring and we didn't really learn anything. We did unnecessary stuff and things that just didn't amuse anyone. We just did stuff that was irrelevant. After we overcame the beginning we started to learn about voices and projection. I knew I was outgoing and I thought I was good at speaking. We ended up taking videos of me speaking. It was crazy how bad I was at speaking. I kept repeating myself and I never knew I say um a lot. This took many multiple speeches before I corrected myself. Correcting yourself speak is very difficult, because you don't realize it. The other members of this class were jokes, but they were great help. They really showed me who I was and what I needed to work and improve on. It really opened my eyes. There are many things that I didn't know I did that were eye dropping to me. After learning about projection on our voices, we moved on about debates. There are many skills about debates that I had no idea. Such as, refuting, good questions, good responses. The biggest skill I think that helped me was the ability to refute. Refuting is always a key but doing it in the proper way. The first debate was to th and unorganized, we learned from our mistakes and did it better next time. The 2nd debate was better. We were organized and had a lot better structure. After learning about debates, we started our final projects. Our final project was our senior speeches. Not being a senior I decided to use this opportunity and have some fun with it. I put all the aspects I learned and put them to the task. The final speech definetly took me a while to write and plan. I believe as well as my classmate believe I have improved tremendously. This class has taught me so many things. I will use and used all the task many times in my life. One thing you do is talk a lot throughout the day, you can either be good at it or bad it's your choice. If you want to be good at it, I'd encourage everyone to enroll and take this class

Rough draft
Why do people chew gum? Chewing without eating seems like such a weird habit, And yet, people have been chewing gum for thousands of years, ever since the ancient Greeks began popping wads of mastic tree resin in their mouth to sweeten the breathe.
As many schools don't allow kids to chew gum during school, there are multiple reasons why you should be able too. Gum is an effective booster of mental performance, conferring all sorts of benefits without any side effects. St Lawerence university, did a study with 159 students. Half of the students were given gum to che won, the other weren't. The results were crazy. The students chewing gum outperformed the students not chewing gum in five out of six tests.
While previous studies achieved similar results chewing gum is often a better test aid than caffeine as caffeine is addictive and hurts your body throughout the day. Caffeine is a drug This latest research investigated the time course of the gum advantage. It turns out to be rather short lived, as gum chewers only showed an increase in performance during the first 20 minutes of testing. After that, they performed identically The same.
For me chewing gum takes my mind of thins. As studies shows it does help you and your well being, I believe students and athletes should be able to chew gum whenever.
The benefits of chewing gum while playing sports go beyond simply increasing the body’s response time. gum chewing increases levels of activity in the brain, particularly the cortex, which enables a higher level of concentration. Chewing gum also decreases adrenaline, which reduces stress and factors that also contribute to enhanced performance. Being an athlete I would want all of these advantages, there is no negative factor, as I'm sure you guys being athletes would want the same.
The act of chewing, in other words, wakes us up, ensuring that we are fully focused on the task at hand. Unfortunately, this boost is fleeting. The takeaway of this research is straightforward: When taking a test, save the gum for the hardest part, or for those questions when you feel your focus flagging. The gum will help you concentrate, but the help won’t last long.
Given the power of gum, it seems a little silly that we don’t allow it in the classroom.f course, gum is disgusting and unsightly once it becomes trash, but it also appears to be a wonderful stimulant, allowing us to benefit from the attentional boost of eating without having to swallow or ingest calories.
I encourage you students to start a petition and get our school to support us and stand by our side as gum helps us, and does not in any way hurt us.
Next time you are taking a test, pop a piece of gum in your mouth to get your maximum concentration.

I think that to make a good speech, you'd have to make it funny and entertaining. Don't do what everyone does, step outside the box and be creative. Make it fun, do the things that no one else would do, make people remember you for good reasons. You should have people be like wow, that speech was great.
Things that make this i believe speeches bad is, repeating yourself. Not being creative and not attracting the reader. Don't start off boring, start of nice and fast. And grab the readers attention right off the hop. Don't wait or delay.with this speech I feel like I have Improved tremendously. For this I believe speech I thought this was going to be hard and boring. This class has taught me a lot. With all the things this class has taught me, such as stating a point, eye contact, no ups, and many more. I feel like I can preform these things I can accomplish with this speech.
The things I can improve on with this speech would be, making my conclusion better and stronger. I sliver I have a great middle body and a great facts. I think adding facts and showing colleges and studies make my speech a little different then other I believe that I just need to tie in how it affects me and my conclusion. If I work on these tasks I will be able to ge a good grade and get this done with.

300 word
Throughout this class I have learned many skills and it's very sad to see it come to an end. This will be a class I will choose to take again, it has taught many things I never knew how to do and how to step out of my comfort zone. Being a sophomore, I don't have to write a end of the year speech, such as the seniors do. I have no idea what I would like to write about. I have a couple topics I could choose, hockey, family. My number one topic would probably be hockey because that's a topic I'm very familiar. I have a lot of experience in that field. It would be very easy for me to talk about it, and explain and Eleborate on the topic. Here are multiple sub topics I could talk about
The path
West coast vs east coast hockey
Major junior or college
Aaa or prep school
These are only a few topics I could talk about, this would be very Easy for me to talk about.
Another big topic I could talk about is family, my family is my #1 priority in life, they look up for me care about me, give me opportunities such as this one here being at Cheshire academy. Sub topic I could talk about would be
Difficulty living without me
Stress being doctors
Living away from home
Hard work
These are only two topics I can talk about, I feel very strongly about both the, and feel I can expand and grow onto each topic. I am also very open to other people giving me new ideas or topics. Throughout life I've learned many things and from past experiences I think I'll be able to do this and create a speech. I will not disappoint.

1 'unite speech
hello fellow Americans, my name is jerrett overland and I've grown up in the Sin City of Las Vegas, when i was 19 I moved out to the east coast to follow my dreams and work for my dad with Haywood Global, our family business, had me working on Wall Street for 15 years I've built many relationships where it has got me where i am today
we will talk about one point terrorism
errorism, terrorism is the biggest topic that i want to address today. Since 9/11, terrorism has nearly tripled. We need to take it to the terrorism groups such as isis, and show them what we're really made of. We have allowed ISIS to enter the us. We need to make our immigration policy tighter, there is no way there should be ISIS in our own country. When i become president, one of the first things i will do, is we will make our army and navies stronger and go destroy terrorism group such as ISIS. We should never let any country or groups the charge and make us scared. I will put an end to isis.
i have full respect for two parties but i can guarantee you they will fail.
I would appreciate your vote for president. If elected, Let's work together to make our community and world a better place. God bless America and each one of you

Blog #5 reflection
Public speaking is avery necessary class tot are in high school. This class help you out in the future. This class gets you pout of your comfort zone, shows you what you're doing wrong and many other things. When I came into this class, i had no idea what to expect. I thought it would be boring and lame and would not help me out. I sincerely take that back because since the day i stepped into the classroom, I have learned something new each day. We doing do the same things everyday, it changes up from writing a speech, to debating, to learning how to project our voice, to have confidence, how to make you sound smarted and so on. This class without a doubt is a game changer when applying for jobs and colleges.
Every four years there is a presidential election, which it falls on this year. For one of our semesters we are doing a debate topic. We have done three debates so far this school year. One on, Hillary Clinton vs. Donald Trump. The others were LeBron James vs Michael Jordan and Disney vs Pixar. These have been three very fun filled debates. Throughout the debate we have learned many important skills such as, how to refute and rebate against ones words nicely. How to respect others when they are talking. The debate has shown what type of person you are in the moment, the way you speak, and other things arise through debating.
The last speech we wrote recently was on Presidential speech. Why should i be elected? This was a very hard assignment for a couple ways. First, if you had no idea about politics or crisis around the world you were pretty much screwed. You had to know somewhat about this topic. This was a complex writing assign, eat. You had to be very persuasive and careful of what you said. There were a few points you had to come across during the speech. One was your background, what have you done, how will this help the country and make you the best candidate. Second, what areas are you going to focus on? Will it be taxes, college tuition, the battle against terrorism and ISIS, you could've gone many routes in this speech. I wanted to focus on the most important topics, the ones i thought meant the most to the country. My topics were ISIS, gun control, and college tuition. The speech brought ta lot of the problems and struggles I have, but it also brought out a lot of my strength and were I tend to excell. This was avery hard, but goof assignment
Overall, public speaking is a great class to take. It will one hundred percent help you out in the future. This class wasn't on my list when I came to this school but now I am taking it. If yu ever want to become a great speaker, more ocnifedent, learn to use big words, learn how to refute against someone. Most importantly have fun. Then public speaking is the class for you

debate rout draft
hello fellow Americans, my name is Steve Haywood and I've grown up in the Sin City of Las Vegas, when i was 19 I moved out to the east coast to follow my dreams and work for my dad with Haywood Global, our family business, had me working on Wall Street for 15 years I've built many relationships where it has got me where i am today.
Everyone said i wouldnt be able to do it, and no one had faith in me. When i stepped up to become Senator and governor, I knew what I was getting into, both my parents one said" if you want it, you're going to have to work twice as hard as the person next to you."
we will talk about 3 points- terrorism, education, and gun control
elaborate oh these things
explain two parties
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
These are only 3 points I'm addressing today, there are over 25 really important things I could address. I have full respect for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, the two are great people and have nothing against them. They both aren't the ones the presidency, they have both been caught in lies. As you all have seen, the debates are just horrendous. They constantly doge questions and just attack each other instead of addressing the questions. Hillary Clinton is a liar, how could you trust her with any information. Trump is aggressive, doesn't know when to stop. These characteristics are very important for one to become president.
I would appreciate your vote for president. If elected, I will continue to fight for the things that are important to american people, no matter how big or small they might be. I will listen to all. come to a happy medium and fight for this nation. Let's work together to make our community and world a better place. God bless American and each one of you

presidential speech
hello fellow Americans, my name is Steve Haywood and I've grown up in the Sin City of Las Vegas, when i was 19 I moved out to the east coast to follow my dreams and work for my dad with Haywood Global, our family business, had me working on Wall Street for 15 years I've built many relationships where it has got me where i am today. for the past 2 years I have served as the Senator for the state of Massachusetts, and before that i was the governor of Massachusetts for 3 years, for the past decade I've help Massachusetts become the state it is today. If you remember when i stepped into office, Massachusetts was a disaster, the tax was highest than ever, the school system in Mass were one o ft he worst in the nation. Everyone said i wouldnt be able to do it, and no one had faith in me. When i stepped up to become Senator and governor, I knew what I was getting into, both my parents one said" if you want it, you're going to have to work twice as hard as the person next to you." And so i did, I had a plan coming into office, I had a burning desire to make things better and make it right. Now we all sit here and you guys are thinking why should i choose Steve for president, well with my past experience in Massachusetts, I think I'm the guy for you. The school system was a disaster, it was one of the worst in the nation. Having 2 kids, i know how much school means to my children and the future for them. The change wont happen right now, it will be in the future, thats when we will see major change. I hated seeing my children suffering in school, the jobs in America will come from them. We need to help them out, educate them, and give them the best education we can. with the topic of education brings my next topic college. Our teenagers and young adults in College are paying so much money for tuition. Over 20 percent of the students right out of high school without scholarship, cant physically pay for college. Our jobs come from our young ones, if students and families cant pay for college, thats 20 percent of the population that will get a low end job or have no job. There is no reasons for this, we need to lower the tuition by half, now this does mean higher tax but this also means more people will be more educated and can get really good jobs, or invent there own things such as Steve Jobs.
with that, bring my next topic Gun Laws. As we all know our country is corrupt and in chaos. The second amendemt states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." I don't think and will never take away the second amendment, But people should have limitations. Now we have to deal with terrorists coming into the country, criminals, and many other things. One of the first things i'll put into place when i step into office is the Gun Background check and only allow people to buy standard guns. This will allow honest citizens to have a right to bear arms and have freedom. The FBI will monitor and have in place a system when someones wants to buy a gun. The FBI will go through a thorough background check on the person the wasn't to buy a gun, this will not take away the criminals and people from dying, but what it will do is it will cut down many deaths and terrorists from buying guns.
Terrorism, terrorism is the biggest topic that i want to address today. Since 9/11, terrorism has nearly tripled. We need to take it to the terrorism groups such as isis, and show them what we're really made of. We have allowed ISIS, to enter the US and let them attack us in our own country. Boston bombing, 9/11, multiple bombings shouldn't be happening. We need to make our immigration policy tighter, there is no way there should be ISIS in our own country. When i become president, one of the first things i will do, is we will make our army and navies stronger and go destroy terrorism group such as ISIS. When we have a president that cant even say the groups name, theres something wrong. We need to take it to them, destroy them, and eliminate them from the face of the world. The US needs to show the world what we're and what we stand for. We should never let any country or groups the charge and make us scared. I will put an end to ISIS.
These are only 3 points I'm addressing today, there are over 25 really important things I could address. I have full respect for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, the two are great people and have nothing against them. They both aren't the ones the presidency, they have both been caught in lies. Hillary Clinton is a liar, how could you trust her with any information. Trump is aggressive, doesn't know when to stop. These characteristics are very important for one to become president. These two sons have what it takes. The two parties need to unite to make our nation a better place. Many people believe that leadership is simply being the firs, the biggest or most powerful. Leadership is working together, listening, organization. A leader is someone who sets direction in an effort or task and influences or motivates people to follow the direction. There are different leadership roles, there are leaders in businesses, in families and of our country. I'm ready to take charge and lead this country into a new direction. what we need in this country is change, without a doubt there will be change with me. I would appreciate your vote for president. If elected, I will continue to fight for the things that are important to american people, no matter how big or small they might be. I will listen to all. come to a happy medium and fight for this nation. Let's work together to make our community and world a better place. God bless American and each one of you

As you all have seen, the debates are just horrendous. They constantly doge questions and just attack each other instead of addressing the questions. Hillary Clinton is a liar, how could you trust her with any information. Trump is aggressive, doesn't know when to stop. These characteristics are very important for one to become president.

Debate analysis
In the next few months the next president will be elected. This will determine the future of the county and our kids. Donald trump and Hillary Clinton, trump is aggressive and says what he means and doesn't cut it short. Trump is smart he chose a calm person to run with him so people get the best of both worlds. There are many ways you can choose or like one candidate mode. One being listen and watching the debate. There are 3-4 presidential debates, the candidates will have questions asked to them and they have to answer accordingly. The first debate was very hectic, a lot of fighting, back and fourth and interrupting. It was definetly fun to watch. The debate last night was a great debate. It was entertaining and fun to watch. Both candidates were attacking each other and they had good points. There were very few points where it was boring. The moderators were a joke and super biased. They only let Clinton refute and talk longer, it was clear who's side they were on. They were definetly democratic and biased. I thought after watching it Hillary Clinton made more mistakes than trump. Clinton is more defensive and doesn't relax yhave responses to turmps comments, she tries to laugh it off but I don't think that works for her, she seems like she has no idea what so say back. Trump was definitely the better at the end. He had better responses and had a lot more of comebacks. He was attacking her at the right moments and knew when to tone it down and apologize about his past or just let it go. Hillary clinton committed the fallacy of obfuscation more than ever. She evaded the question asked more than others and attempted to redirect the line of inquiry to talking points with which she was more comfortable. This helped trump win and she took the heat all night and had nothing to say. In march hillary Clinton spoke about her emails and how they were delayed. She said to the moterator "Colin Powell summed it up well, he was told that some of his emails from more than 10 years ago were going to be retroactively classified, and he called it an absurdity." Here she used appeal to authority, she is very manipulative and know one notices it really. She is very good at dodging questions and changing it around. I think even though she uses fallacies, sometimes it works. I think the appeal to authority maybe worked, some of the fallacies she uses don't work. When she doges a question or changes the topic, it's obvious you can tell that she doesn't like it or has no response. Overall, I thought that both candidates had a lot of good moments, and some not so good. Debates are hard but they definetly have figured it out and they now have a bigger picture and ideas of what they can do. Debate 3 is soon we'll see how both candidates react and what they have to sAy.

Fallacy
a relatively insignificant first event is to lead to a bigger event, which then becames a bigger event, and so on, until some ultimate, significant event is reached, but with each step it becomes more and more improbable.
Ex:
Ex:
- "The US shouldn't get involved militarily in other countries. Once the government sends in a few troops, it will then send in thousands to die.
This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because there is no reason to believe that one event must inevitably follow from another without an argument for such a claim

trump vs clinton
the presidential debate held on monday night had its ups and downs. it was a great experience and a huge turnout. the presidential debates aren't usually crazy, there calm collective and they try to get the message out there. but with the 2 candidates being who they are i think it was a completely different time. this time it involved a lot of back and forth and trash talk. donald trump is aggressive doesn't have a lot of facts, just sorta flows with it. hillary clinton is laid back, takes the hits, and she has no comebacks. st the end of all of this i think trump definitely came out with the victory, he was confident, he had a bunch of comebacks. he said things like you approved nafta, and many other things. trump found a way to get inside clintons head. she didn't know how to react to anything. she did things like play if off and that type of things. the moderator was brutal, he had terrible questions he was bias and was just a terrible speaker. i know for a fact that was the worst part. the back in forth action between the two candidates was good. it was interesting the different ways the two candidates wanted to compete and get there points across. clinton was defensive in many ways. she didn't want to get her hands dirty and get it done, she was laid back and scared. trump was aggressive, on top of her, didn't let her speak. this is the way to win. with no doubt trump won

Post speech reflection
So at the beginning I was nervous, but after all it was fun. I think after watching my video, I need to work on not getting so nervous and not being monotone. Seeing other people like Tommy have a lot of confidence showed me that you shouldn't care about anything or what people think. I think joey has taught me to confidence in the wya I talk, in ways such as being monotone. He has a big protectable voice. I think I'm good at looking around making eye contact. I think this was a good experience in regards to our first speech and getting out of our comfort zones. For next time I need to not worry as much as other people think, and use a big priectable voice

I am speech rough draft 1
What has influenced you in your lifetime, a couple things that have influenced me are my family, friends, experiences I've gone through, and of course social media. Hello my name is Jerrett overland. I'm 15 years old from Las Vegas. This is my first year attending Cheshire academy, I'm a sophomore and have enjoyed the school year so far.
I think social media has changed me the most for a couple reasons, first we're on our phones or social media most of the day so we're always around these things.
Secondly we as a society think so highly of "famous" people, and try to be like them.
Sometimes celebrities are great role models and teach you great things, but sometimes they don't.
When one has a role model, they strive to work harder, be a better person, and live life like him.
One person who has influenced me through social media would be Steven Stamkos, he;s humble, hard worker, and never stops.
He wakes up every morning doing the little thing, he has his priorities straight, he puts people before himself, and is humble. I try to wake up and do things he does.

Another thing that influences me a lot would be family and peers.
People who mean the most to us or become the greatest influences in our lives, we tend to do things that they do and follow there footsteps.
My hockey coach has taught me many things, I thank him and give him credit for a lot of my success, he has taught me to be humble, be a hard worker, and be yourself.
A big thing that influences us is our past. Good memories tend to stick with you and never go away. A Good memories is when we lost 6-1 in a championship game, and we got blown out.
We played the best hockey ever, we never stopped, they were just a better team. After the game the coach and a couple players came in our Lockeroom and told us how good we played mad that we battled super hard.
That showed great character, and how humble that team is. They didn't take the game for granted. The same thing could happened to bad memories.
Bad memories tend to be forgotten, but good memories stay forever.
We as people grow and tell those memories and past experiences.
Stories are usually past experiences good or bad.
These things have influenced me tremendously in my lifetime.
The things that influence in ones lifetime completely affects there life, it can help, change, kill, and make it a whole new world.

What I've learned
In public speaking and had a lot of fun and I have enjoyed the class. The last couple weeks we have talked about our speech and the way we talk and other things regarding speaking in public. We have talked mostly about criticizing and fixing our speeches, we have learned multiple things regarding this topic such as being monotone, bad hand placement, Bad eye contact, and boring speeches, and the tone of an ur voices. Bad eye contact, boring speeches, and tone. I have a few struggles when i talk, I'm sometimes monotone and I some time say um repeadetly. I never noticed I did any of these things, we discussed why and how I can fix these tings such as me being monotone, me saying ums, me swaying or bad hand placement. We talked about a perfect speech and what it looks like, things to look for in a perfect speech are not monotone, loud and clear, not boring and has a sense of humor, and doesn't distract the audience. Other things we have talked about it our voices and tones. In one class period you had us yell and talk loud saying the same thing and find the difference. There is a huge difference between yelling and talking loudly, when you have a speech you should be talking loud and clear and have a projected voice. If we're too quiet the audience can't understan us and will loose intrest in what you're saying. I think I project my voice well and speak loud and clear. This class has surprised me and I thought this will be boring and lame, this is a crazy fun class, great teacher, and great students and atmopshere. I've learned a lot and hope and will continues to pay attention and learn more things.

INTRODUCTION
Introduction
Hi, my name is Jerrett Overland. I was bored and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. I'm fifteen years old and play hockey. I have one sister, mom , and a dad. Both of my parents are doctors and they own there own business in Las Vegas. They are both chiropractors. My sister is thirteen years old and she is a freshman in high school, she goes to Bishop Gorman. She is a cheerleader and enjoys tubing and hanging with her friends on her free time. I also have one pet, a dog, named Gigi. She's a Maltese and she's the only reason I wanna come home everyday.
I started playing hockey when I was eight years old. I've been playing for almost eight years. You're probably wondering how and why did i get into hockey since I love in the desert. It all started when my friend named Niko invited me to his ice skating birthday party, and a hockey coach saw me skate and told me I should start playing. I started really late for hockey, but that didn't stop me, I trained hard everyday before school at five am every morning. The hard work and dedication got me to the travel team in only one summer of hard work and lessons. My mom always used to say it was meant for you to start late, and the timing was perfect, they needed one spot on the team. Since that moment I've fell in love with the game and couldn't see myself not playing it.
I played in Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Storm for about 5 years. After I started to get older I realized I had to move away from home if I wanted to pursue my hockey dream. So since then, I've lived in 3 different states, Utah, California, and now Connecticut. Hockey has taken me many places and has taught me many things. It's my passion and my whole family understands what I'm trying to do. This past year I've been rewarded with many things, I got invited to attend the USA hockey national camp, which is the top 200 kids in the nation, get four training camp offers for the WHL, and of course have the luxury of making the team here in the beautiful campus of Cheshire.
Outside of hockey I love to hang with friends, spend time with families, listen to music, and workout. I enjoy traveling a lot, with hickey you don't get the luxury of traveling, me and my family try to take a vacation once a year. The past few years I've been fortunate enough to travel to Jamaica, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and multiple US states.
